This College Board course is defined as a college-level, global history of the world and not merely a history of western civilization. After a review of ancient and medieval world history, the course begins with the year 1200 AD, and after nine historical units it ends with today’s current events. Integrating several primary themes of world history, such as “Cultural Developments and Interactions,” the class will cover all areas of the world, but only a portion of the time will focus on western civilization. By necessity it will also focus on critical thinking more than learning facts only. Analytical essay writing will be greatly emphasized. Students will be expected to read a college-level textbook and work with primary and secondary source materials.
