CP American Music History is designed as a semester-long overview of the evolution of American History using the lens of music over the past century, focusing on the key genres, artists, and cultural influences. The course will discuss how the historical social, political, cultural, environmental, technological, and economic events of each decade contributed to the development of American music and American culture. In doing so, the course will examine how historical events and social changes influenced music and how music, in turn, impacted American society.
