About ethos

Ethos Evolves

Ethos was established in 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona as an independent private school by a small group of parents in search of an education that would meet their children’s needs.

The founders envisioned a school that would blend challenging academics with true opportunities for social growth in an environment where students would be valued as individuals.

The school required a name that embodied the soul of this groundbreaking endeavor. The name was inspired by the Greek word ethos, meaning the character or fundamental values of a person, culture or movement.

Ethos School is at the vanguard of an important educational movement, one that will greatly enhance both educational choice and the range of positive life outcomes for our highly capable students.

Philosophy

We are committed to creating a student-centered educational environment that stresses high expectations and addresses the physical, social and emotional needs of children with a variety of learning styles.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for success by offering an integrated, individualized curriculum that reaches across disciplines and age levels. Our curriculum is adapted to the specific needs of our students and builds on their strengths and interests through a Discovery Learning model. We promote success through cooperative learning projects and opportunities to develop lasting friendships.

Objectives
  • Provide small class sizes with low teacher to student ratios (currently 1:3)

  • Develop curriculum that is college preparatory with core academic subjects aligned to Arizona State standards

  • Engage students in hands-on activities that provide authentic learning experiences and encourage independent investigation

  • Provide students with cutting edge technology including software guided curriculum, state of the art computers and a wireless campus

  • Encourage acceptance and tolerance by teaching problem solving skills through a core virtues program

  • Strengthen communication and language skills through opportunities for cooperative learning

  • Build and maintain a strong school community to foster a sense of belonging

Student Profile

We seek motivated, highly capable students who learn best in a small, supportive atmosphere. Many of our students are on the autism spectrum or have other learning challenges such as ADHD or nonverbal learning disorders. We consider not only the prospective student’s academic ability but also their ability to fit well into the established Ethos community and to benefit from the unique individualized programs.
